I spoke with Gail earlier today and she is, understandably, very exhausted. She asked that I send an update on Danny. I'm sending it to you so that you can spread the word to your mass email list and any website where updates on Danny are being posted.

After the exciting elation of Danny's progress yesterday - having all tubes removed - recognizing Babbs, Gail, and Terry - attempting to speak - and giving some response to questions asked - today, reality set in. Danny's recovery is going to be a long haul - for him and for the family. It will be a while before they can accurately tell what damage his brain has sustained, and how long and how successful his recovery will be. He will need additional surgery on his left eye socket, as well as, more maxiofacial surgery. He will be going to therapy at some point. That will take at least a month.

So, while we are all excited about his improvement, this trauma is far from over. His injuries are serious and recovery likely will take several months.

Best guess is that it will be at least a week or two before Danny will be ready for visitors. In the meantime, if anyone wants to send a note, card, joke, photo, or love in any way, please send it to:

Gail believes that what will help Danny most is knowing just how much love and caring for him there is out here. We will keep the updates coming. Thank you everyone for your love and support.

Thanks for the update Carey. I'm pretty sure that Danny's room number is 8506, that's what it was when I was at the hospital the other day.

Rehab:
In the second paragraph, it should say - he'll be going to rehab at some point (not therapy) Rehab includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, etc.

Diana and Carey, thanks for the update. Let Danny, family, and friends know that we all share in faith and prayer. We love you all. Personally I know how long the road will be and this family needs to have patience and love and to stay strong on Danny's journey. You all will learn about strength and endurance. It will be rewarding on many levels to see the steps that will be taken and how the small things in life we all take for granted will be over the top.
